PAKISTAN READER

NIAS Area Studies: Pakistan

Pakistan Reader, as an Area Studies initiative at NIAS, aims to study contemporary Pakistan through the following verticals: social, political, cultural, external and security, with a special focus on economy, energy and S&T.

NIAS Pakistan Reader is also a capacity-building exercise. It aims to nurture young scholars in India working on Pakistan and build a network of Pakistan scholars worldwide. It also organizes regular workshops for young scholars to improve their skills and understanding of contemporary Pakistan.

NIAS-PR publishes a Daily Brief, Pakistan Weekly, Pakistan Monitor monthly and regular analysis – comments and essays. It also conducts an online course on contemporary Pakistan.

About the team

Prof D Suba Chandran is the Dean of the School of Conflict and Security Studies at NIAS, Bengaluru. He heads the Science, Technology and International Relations Programme. He coordinates the Pakistan Area Studies and is the Editor of the Pakistan Monitor.

Nuha Aamina is a research assistant at NIAS. She is a part of the editorial team for the Pakistan Reader. Her interests lie in conflict-ridden regions, and non-traditional security issues such as human rights and climate change from a policy perspective.

Abhiruchi Chowdhury is a Research Assistant at the School of Conflict and Security Studies, NIAS, Bangalore. He is a part of the Pakistan Area Studies and is a member of the editorial team for Pakistan Reader. His areas of interest include Political Communication and Moral Philosophy. He is also interested in identifying reasons behind the rise of right leaning political parties in Europe.

Rohini Reenum is a Doctoral Student at NIAS. She is also a Project Associate at the Institute and coordinates the Pakistan Area Studies. She is the Assistant Editor for the Pakistan Reader. Her areas of interest in terms of research include Ocean Governance, International Relations Theory, Contemporary Global Politics, Feminist Foreign Policy and Peace and Conflict Studies. She is also interested in looking at the current international political order and issues from a historical perspective.
